The Miracle of Istanbul: The Greatest Champions League Final Comeback

In 2005, Liverpool FC played against AC Milan in the final of the Champions League, the most prestigious club football competition in the world. The match started brightly for Milan, with them taking a 3-0 lead thanks to two goals from striker Hernan Crespo and another from midfielder Paolo Maldini. Liverpool looked down and out, but in one of the greatest comebacks in soccer history, they mounted a stunning fightback. Goals from Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso brought Liverpool level at 3-3, taking the game to extra-time. Milan had chances but could not beat the inspired Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, who made a string of incredible saves. The game went to penalties, and Dudek was the hero again, saving Andriy Shevchenko's spot-kick to secure a 3-2 shootout victory for Liverpool.
